Daily Dose 1-6-12

Matthew 5:47-48 (MSG) “If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that. In a word, what I'm saying is, Grow up. You're kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you."
These words of Jesus in Matthew are powerful, and even more blunt in the Message translation. It is easy for us to view ourselves as loving people as we celebrate holidays surrounded by family and friends. But how are we at loving those we really don’t like at all? How are we at loving those who have hurt us or are just plain mean to us? How are we at loving those who reject our love? We think of love as a beautiful thing that comes with happiness and great joy and fulfillment. Most of the time, it is. However, to love like Jesus loves, for us, is hard work! Look in your heart and work on those you should be loving…and remember, you may be on the same list for someone else!
Father, Thank you for Your reminder. To love the unlovely and those who reject or disregard my love for them is the greatest test of whether or not Jesus can be seen through me. I love You! Amen
