John 17:20-23 My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
The last prayer of Jesus while on this earth was for unity. He knew that united believers would provide much joy, support and encouragement to one another. He also knew that unity would attract non-believers to save the lost. How are we doing on fulfilling His desire? Examine your role in unifying – or divisive – behaviors. Are you part of the solution, or part of the problem?
Father, I beg for Your wisdom and guidance. Please teach me to be an instrument of the unifying love of Christ. Help me to know how to heal broken relationships and move forward for Your kingdom. Soften my heart and the hearts of others so that we may love each other as You love us – and through that love, bring others to know Your saving grace. Amen
