John 11:33-35 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept.
It’s always been somewhat of a mystery as to why Jesus would weep over the death of Lazarus when He knew He was about to bring him back to life. Maybe it was only for us to see His example to follow. We may not be able to raise the dead for those we love that have lost someone they love, but we can certainly be there to weep with them. Often, people avoid mourners because they don’t know what to say. Jesus shows us that in many instances you don’t have to say anything, empathy is a great comforter. Empathy does not explain the whys of loss or how to respond appropriately. Empathy isn't laced with flowery words or motivational quotes. The same goes for those who are dealing with sickness, financial struggles, acknowledging their sin, or a host of other struggles. "Jesus wept," teaches us is the importance of being there for people who are hurting.
Father, Give me Your insight to know who in my life may need a listening ear and a shared tear. Redeem my time and help me to be available to meet needs as You meet my needs. I love You! Amen
