Mark 12:41-44 (MSG) Sitting across from the offering box, he was
observing how the crowd tossed money in for the collection. Many of the rich
were making large contributions. One poor widow came up and put in two small
coins—a measly two cents. Jesus called his disciples over and said, "The
truth is that this poor widow gave more to the collection than all the others
put together. All the others gave what they'll never miss; she gave
extravagantly what she couldn't afford—she gave her all."
Generosity is a natural trait for a Christ Follower. The path He
showed us is one of sacrifice that comes from love. Sacrifice born from a sense
of duty or guilt is futile. However, some have learned the blessings of giving
when they attempt a faith offering for the first time. God has a way of
multiplying what we give when we trust Him enough to let go. The sacrifice
Jesus expects of us is not just monetary contributions. Some write checks
freely, but struggle with investing their time to serve people. When we take
the time to really look at others, the Holy Spirit will reveal their needs to
us. We then have a choice. Do we walk away? Or, do we follow Christ to be a
comfort for the grieving, a champion for the broken, or a friend to the lonely.
What sacrifice is Jesus waiting for you to make today?
Father, Show me how to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting
world. Multiply my sacrifice to serve You. I love You! Amen
