Matthew 25:24-30 (MSG) 'Master, I know you have high standards and
hate careless ways, that you demand the best and make no allowances for error. I was afraid I might disappoint you, so
I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound
down to the last cent.' "The master was furious. 'That's a terrible way to
live! It's criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the
best, why did you do less than the least? The least you could have done would
have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have
gotten a little interest. Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked
the most. And get rid of this "play-it-safe" who won't go out on a
limb. Throw him out into utter darkness.'
The Message version of this parable of Jesus makes His point rather
bluntly. What ways are you “Playing it safe” where He wants you to be bold? So
often, we are bold in matters of the world with work and pursuing hobbies or
interests – we go all out! The servant used a phrase that many of us may not
verbalize, but often feel – “I was afraid I might disappoint you.” Satan uses
our insecurities to imprison our talents for Kingdom work. What should you be
using boldly for the LORD that you have hidden in fear?
Father, I know there are more ways You intend to use me than I am
currently doing. Stop my excuses, point me in Your direction and give me the
courage to be bold! I love You! Amen
