Psalm 141:3 Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
What a powerful instrument of God our words can be! They can bring encouragement and healing to struggling and broken hearts. Our words can minister to lost souls by sharing the words of Christ. We have the capacity to show love, bring laughter, and impart wisdom from this seemingly simple portion of the complex human anatomy. On the other hand, our words can be instruments of satan’s spiritual warfare. With a spoken judgment, we can condemn the lost by turning them away from the message of Christ. With expressions of opinion that lead to discord of God’s people, the tongue can be satan’s powerful sword. Harsh words spoken to one struggling with issues in life can further crush an already fragile spirit. What about words never spoken? There are lonely souls who long to share conversation and be included in the lives of others. There are struggling souls who are weary from life who need encouragement. Ask God to allow your words to be His instrument today. Think about what you say and how you say it. Use your words to encourage and lift up the broken, and share the hope of salvation with the lost. Ask the Holy Spirit to hold your tongue when your words would be divisive, hurtful or just plain useless. Think of someone who is longing to speak with another today and take the time to let them share their words with you. The choice is yours…how will you use your powerful instrument today?
Father, Please take control of my tongue! May I speak Your words of comfort, encouragement and healing today. Protect me from words I may want to speak, but could bring harm or have no usefulness for Your Kingdom. I love You! Amen
