John 12 :42-43 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
What must it have been like to be a Jewish leader who did believe in Jesus, yet stood by as He was beaten and crucified? It’s so easy for us to judge them and feel like if only we had been there, we would have stood up and defended Him…but would we? How are we doing with our own stands today? Since our society has become so politically correct, we face similar choices. Instead of proudly proclaiming the name of Jesus, we subdue our passion for Him and say nothing about who He is or what He has done in our lives. How different is that from the leaders who believed Jesus? We do not want to be rejected or ridiculed by men, so we remain silent. In our silence Jesus is crucified all over again.
Father, Give me courage, insight and wisdom to take a stand for You and Your son, even though it may not be politically correct. Guide me to be a bold extension of Jesus’ ministry, not one who cowers at the protocol of men. I beg for courage, insight and wisdom and plead with You to forgive my missed opportunities. I love You. Amen
